It's a common question that i've been asked a lot, people who have concerns about their height want to know if hanging can make them taller?

Let's face it, hanging from a bar, stairs or whatever other prop you have found is a painful experience and you will be lucky if you can handle more than 90 seconds in the act. Your palms will burn and your should joints will ache. So therefore a lot of you guys out there really want to know whether hanging to grow taller is really worth the pain?

Before we answer this, let's bring some of you up to speed with the concept behind this suggestion.

The Concept behind hanging and growing taller

The suggestion that you might be able to grow taller from hanging comes from the way the spine is structured. Between each of our vertebrae (the bones in our spine) are discs. These are not rigid like bones, but they are soft and can be compressed as evolution has designed them to act as shock absorbers, protecting the vertebrae. When we stand up the weight of our upper body is being supported completely by our spine. The discs have a very small diameter meaning that the pressure on them is extremely high resulting in the become squashed during long periods of activity in an upright position, such as walking, running or even standing.

The idea behind hanging making you taller is basically the opposite effect of above. By applying the opposite force to your spinal discs there may be a chance that they can elongate rather than compress. If compression makes you smaller, tension makes you taller! But by how much?

How much taller can hanging make me?

It's a fact that marathon runners lose up to 1cm (nearly half an inch) in height after the race, albeit temporary, and that involves hours of pounding on the road, which effectively sends compression waves through their discs thousands upon thousands of times. So will hanging for a few minutes really have a decent effect? Probably not. Me and an old mate have actually tested this technique to it's limit. We hung from the underside of some stairs in the stair well of our old apartment building 5 times a week. Each time it consisted of about 7-8 sets of hanging for as long as possible, which was usually just under two minutes. After each time, we measured a miniscule increase in height. It was definately less than 0.25cm (0.1 inch). Further this increase would only last an hour at the max! Basically it wasn't worth the bother.

Our advice on hanging to grow taller

Don't bother. The increase in height is temporary only (1 hour) and it's not even noticeable. Spend your free time doing better things.

You can¨t grow taller 10 inches for couple hanging sessions, but if your doing it every day for couple of months you can grow in spine about 3-4 inches. Human spine have 33 discs. If someone success get that space for only 2 mm at the time you can grow about 6 cm because if you have 33 spaces which you would elongate them for 2 mm at the time you can grow. This is why are basketball players are tall. Michael Jordan grew taller about 6 inches with this hanging exercise.

If Michael Jordan would have did this an grew about 6 inches taller his legs wouldn't fit to his torso. You can not increase your height with hanging.

I have tried hanging, cycling and yoga for more than a year everyday. However, I failed to increase my height. I dream about getting taller and play basketball every day. I am 18 right now and wonder whether I will be able to get any taller. My growth stopped since I was 16. Please give me suggestions which will certainly increase my height.

All the comments are lies. Don't believe them. Ask a doctor. You can't increase height like that. Vertebral extension might help you gain like half an inch, if done consistently.. if you're extremely lucky then one inch.
